The Government of Alberta has released a statement that they will not mandate a day off for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. September 30th was designated as a federal statutory holiday earlier this summer for all federally regulated employers. The Alberta Government is leaving the decision to recognize the day as a statutory holiday to the discretion of each employer. Employers will want to communicate their plans for September 30th to employees in the coming days, if they have not already done so.
Many organizations, including some Omni MCA clients, are using this day to provide education aimed at helping staff recognize the tragic history and commemorate the on-going legacy of residential schools.
